Get Down Memphis
Posted on 8/8/2017

Open on Main, the DMC's storefront activation initiative, continues its growth with the addition of two locations at 86 and 88 North Main Street.

Two central objectives for the Open on Main project are to increase activity on Main Street and to encourage more permanent occupation of these spaces, and others like them, in our Downtown core. Building on the success of the current Open on Main pop-ups at 7 and 9 North Main, the DMC is excited to add 8 more local shop-keepers along the Main Street Mall over the next five months.

"The Open on Main pop-up initiative is a key component of our renewed focus on the Main Street Mall and the Downtown Core," said Brett Roler, VP of Planning and Development at DMC. "We see pop-up activation as a creative way to increase retail options Downtown while simultaneously improving the appearance of vacant or blighted buildings. Open on Main will provide an opportunity for over 20 local small businesses to test their concepts Downtown. Incubating authentic retail Downtown is a high priority. The DMC is proud to be working with so many diverse, inspiring, and creative entrepreneurs to bring new retail options to the Main Street Mall."

Buff City Soap opened for business at 86 N Main in late July and Shop Mucho recently opened in 88 N Main and will remain throughout August. Other tenants taking occupancy of the 8 primary tenants selected for the expansion will occupy the storefronts through November 2017.

"We're excited to get exposure in the Downtown sector," says Hannah Cranford, Visual In-Store Director of Buff City Soap Co. "This is the beginning of us opening stores in the heart of Memphis and we're looking for the proper locations for that. We want Downtowners to become aware of our presence. With all the living arrangements, concerts and events in downtown, it made this opportunity with DMC very unique and we wanted to take it."
